Waves

Another blog post made me realize this is something I had never written about, but should have.

Y’all I think will relate to this. I have managed pain by using a technique which just really came to me during a really bad phase… You know the ones where waves of pain are coming at you? And you feel as if you are going to drown? Well I went back in mind to a vacation I had taken as a child to the ocean. You may have done this also, you are standing in the waves …  if you fight them? You go under! If you ride them? Then you feel like you are part of the ocean! This is how I ride the pain, the spasms, the waves of Gastroparesis or even add it to biofeedback for migraines self-help.

It turned out to be a very useful technique because I no longer feel as if I am in a fight with myself or so out of control, or as if I am a passenger on an out of control plane or car which has been hi-jacked. Instead I am quietly riding the experience, does it still hurt? Of course it does! But the panic, added stress, higher blood pressure, increased heart rate, all of which add to my pain levels do not get to add to the chorus of my pain litany.
