There is a memory I cherish. It involves rose shows, dog shows, and preparation of Sunday school lessons, following a little hem of a white lab coat. See, it is not about any of the things I just listed, it is about the man that was doing all of the things I listed.
He filled prescriptions, created different types of roses, with my mother by his side, and three little children watching their every move, grooming cocker spaniels, entering them into dog shows, and so many other things that I don’t even know if I can list them all….
But there was a theme to everything and that everything? Was a spirit of an optimist. And if there was not an optimist club in the town we moved to? Soon that situation would be addressed and a new optimist club would be formed and meetings would begin!
I am leaving out so many things!
Here is the creed we saw as a living breathing testimony!
The Optimist Creed
Promise Yourself
To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.
To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.
To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.
To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
